TYDE, THE ICON, and BMW.
TYDE describes itself as a company working at the intersection of electric mobility, hydrofoil technology, and luxury travel on the water. Its best-known vessel, THE ICON, was developed with BMW and publicly unveiled at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May 2023.
BMW describes itself as the driving force behind the project and credits TYDE with the vessel’s development and realisation. BMW Group subsidiary Designworks created the design concept, while the electric drive draws its energy from high-voltage BMW i batteries.
The collaboration
A connection made explicit.
TYDE and BMW both present THE ICON as a joint project. BMW brought electric-mobility technology, automotive expertise, battery systems, and the Designworks team. TYDE brought the marine platform to life and was responsible for development and realisation of the vessel.
The onboard acoustic experience was composed by Hans Zimmer, making THE ICON the first Dolby Atmos certified yacht in its class.
