Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has served as Amir of the State of Qatar since 25 June 2013. As head of state and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, he also chairs the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment and the National Security Council.

Born in Doha in 1980, he continued his education in the United Kingdom and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1998. He subsequently joined the Qatar Armed Forces before becoming Heir Apparent in 2003.

His reign has coincided with Qatar's increasingly visible role in global investment, energy, diplomacy, sport, and international affairs.
